Welcome to Buzz, AKASHAH! Your latest single, "Spooky B," is a certified banger. What inspired the title and overall concept?

"Spooky B," short for Spooky B*tch, was inspired by my lifelong love for horror. Oddly enough, when I was a little girl, my favorite movie series was Poltergeist, and I was obsessed with reading Goosebumps novels growing up. I started writing scary stories at a young age, and I had a passion for reading them aloud to my family with much charisma and enthusiasm. I channeled my two favorite activities growing up, writing and singing - into this song. So you could say it was a tribute to my childhood, and no better time for it to come out than Halloween month.

What was your creative process when producing "Spooky B?" Were there any artists or projects that might have influenced you?

It's different for every song I write, but this track flowed out of me as if it was simply ready to be birthed into the world. Within the first few hours of starting the project, it was near completion, which was an exciting moment for me in my journey as a producer, simply because I realized how easy the process starts to become when creativity sparks. I seldom reference other people's music when I'm starting a new project, but I have a lot of musical influences. I really enjoy the sounds of NuBass, Thomas Anthony, Proppa, Kriss Reeves, Bijou, and Nostalgic. It's my first signed track with a record label, and Play Records president Melleefresh has been an iconic inspiration for me for a long time. Her sexy vocals inspired me to come out of my shell with this one, and ever since, that shell has remained cracked right open.

How does "Spooky B" stand out from the rest of your discography? What makes it different?

Spooky B is the first beat I've written and recorded my vocals for. It's also one of the marking points of my transition from pursuing dubstep and back to my devout house-lover ways, at least for a time. This track is dirty, with inspiration from UK Bass and garage and a sultry signature vocal to balance it out.

You’ve been a part of the rave scene since 2007. How has your experience in the underground scene influenced your sound today?

Electronica first gave me a sense of community and belonging like nothing else ever had by the time I got into raving at 13 years old. I believe I have the advantage of a developed ear for rhythm and good music, which set me up for structuring some fun projects from the jump.

What do you hope listeners feel when hearing "Spooky B?" What's your goal?

Getting lost while finding myself in music from a young age has enabled me to understand which sounds would evoke feelings and make people want to move. I hope to initiate that same response in my listeners, inspiring and empowering them and raising their vibrations. I aspire to be hired as a professional topliner, and I'm excited for more people to discover that I write, sing, and rap as well. I feel the track showcases multiple skills of mine, and I look forward to connecting with more people who share the same passion for this style of music.
