Welcome back to Buzz, Selena Victoria! It’s always a pleasure, you always bring your A-game! We loved “Dancin’ on My Own”, could you take us through the creative process for this release?
A pleasure to be back! Thank you so much! I’m so happy you enjoyed the single. It is definitely a favorite of mine to ever be written and recorded. The creative process for writing and recording “Dancin’ On My Own” was quite a fun one. I had this song in my back pocket for quite some time.
I wrote it back in 2019 when I first ever experienced liberation from the depths of heartbreak. After healing from such heartbreak, I felt this overwhelming shift inside me, and I then decided from that point on that I was going to fully choose and love myself - flaws and all. I didn’t feel it was the right time to release the track, as I knew I had more growth and evolving to do, which is why this track came out when it did. It was a five-year wait, but in my opinion, it was worth the wait as this track fully embodies where I am currently in my life.
When I brought the song to my producer, he knew exactly what kind of sound I wanted. We just had so much fun with the recording of it - as I’ve always done with every song I’ve recorded - and it just became this beautiful piece of art that I knew so many people would be able to relate to. The embodiment and the essence of what it means to feel truly free.
For anyone who isn’t as familiar with you and your story, what inspired you to take that initial step to start pursuing music seriously, and what motivates you to make music now?
What inspired me to pursue music more seriously was my passion and drive for it. I have always loved music and have been writing and singing since I was a young girl, but what made me dive in head first was my overwhelming desire to achieve everything I’ve ever wanted in this industry. To achieve the vision, I knew nobody but myself could see.
I’ve always felt I was made for so much more, and I truly believe every desire that is placed in your soul is a desire that you are meant to achieve and a risk worth taking. What motivates me now more than ever are my endless experiences of happiness, love, sadness, adventure, danger, and ecstasy. Every experience in my life has made me who I am and who I will be. Those moments inspire great talent out of me and new material to be created.
What do you think is the most important quality for a musician to have?
The most important qualities I believe every musician should have is persistence, passion, and drive to never give up, no matter what the odds. When you love what you do, and you enjoy the creation process more than the rewards it reaps, that is when you know you have something special - something worth taking a chance for. I also believe that personal experiences - which obviously heavily influence musicians the most - are just as equally important.
When you use those emotions and those backstories to create something magical with the intention of wanting to be a voice for somebody out there, you truly have a valuable piece of art. I very much believe every musician somehow conveys their real-life scenarios into their songs, knowing people will be able to relate to them and resonate with them.
If your fans could take one thing away from your music, what would you want it to be?
If my fans could take away one thing from my music, I would definitely want it to be the message to always love yourself and chase your dreams no matter how far-fetched they may seem. Nothing is impossible. As a talented and wise Legend once said, “Always believe the impossible is possible” - Selena Quintanilla Perez. The beautiful Tejano singer I was named after.
I truly carry that quote with me wherever I go because she’s right. Even the things we think are impossible are, in fact, possible. Every dream is worth the wait, every desire is worth the risk, and every step is worth your time if you truly feel it's what's meant for you. Don’t give up, and love yourself through every high and low.
What’s next for Selena Victoria, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
What’s next for me is the filming of the music video for my new single, “Dancin’ On My Own.” I have an incredibly talented team I will be working with to create this video, and I am super excited that people will see it. The song itself is definitely more Rnb than it is Pop, however for the video we will be incorporating so many different elements to capture the vision I see in my mind for this song. I know, without a doubt, it is going to be magical.
I’m so excited! The one thing I want to say to my fans is how much I love and adore every single one of you. How grateful I am for your unconditional love and support, and how thankful I am to have you all on this journey with me. It's truly been a wild ride, but having my fans there every step of the way is the biggest inspiration for me to keep going.
