Welcome to BuzzMusic Neon Dreams, and congratulations on your latest visual, "This Is It." What brought you guys together, and how did you decide on the sound direction the band would come to be known for?

Before we sounded like we do now, we made electronic dance music as a band. So high energy and dance drop singing about random things that didn’t make much sense to me now. We were at a crossroads. We got lots of love from our side of the country for our shows. Trying to grow outside created problems because we were a band performing in the DJ world. No one wanted us to open up because our energy would take away from headliners, and no one wanted to work with a 4 piece EDM band. I remember after realizing all this, I said, "Let’s just make our own path; let's make music that will just last forever." The very next week, I made this song called Marching Bands, which hit every radio station in the country, and that was the start of our uplifting sound.

What's the story behind your band name, "Neon Dreams?"

If you see the world as I do, you’ll know nothing is a coincidence. Sometimes you get an idea that you were so happy about but never took action on it, and then a year later, someone has that idea and took it all the way, and the whole world is talking about it. Before our first show, we didn’t have a name and while Adrian and I were throwing out ideas - City of Dreams was one, someone in the room was like Neon Lights! Then Matt, who is now our manager, was like, "What about Neon Dreams?" Everyone looked around, and it was very quiet at that moment. I had never felt such silence before. Then everyone agreed, Neon Dreams it is. And we took action and never looked back.

What's your favourite song to perform live, and why?

It’s like asking who’s your favourite kids, haha - but my favourite song, live would always be life without fantasies until we create something that makes people feel as happy as that song does. The whole room lights up, and people are smiling from Ear to Ear! Friends are hugging each other, and right then, every night, I realize these guys just made a memory they’ll talk about to their kids when they are older.

What message do you want people to take away from "This Is It?"

Your heart and soul will tell you what love is, not your eyes. Watching my friends be in love helped me make this song; they are such different people, and I realized no riches could make this type of love. No material thing can create this type of love. When your heart chooses someone you know before you even speak your first few words to them. You love her cause your heart said, “This is it; this is true love”

What's next for Neon Dreams?

I hope for this music to spread further into the world, not for my ego but because I think of music as spiritual medicine, and it would make me happy to see people worldwide experience Neon Dreams. We are preparing for our Sunshine Tour with another Canadian, Colemen Hell, and local Joburg artist, The Saxby Twins. The goal is to do this once a year, bring an international artist to South Africa, and show them how beautiful this country is. But other than that, we've already started working on the next body of music, and it’s incredible we found a working formula that will make this family a lot bigger!
