Ride The Wave Of Marc Oliver In His Summer Hit, “Surf Song”

When it comes to versatile recording artist and singer-songwriter Marc Oliver, expect the unexpected. One could describe the San Diego-based artist's sound as R&B and alternative meets rock and pop, but one thing is consistent, he attributes his dynamic sound to the area that raised him.

Fast forward to today, Oliver has toured the world playing various festivals alongside names like John Legend, Jewel, and Pat Benatar. He's been taking the music industry by storm over the past 25 years with no end in sight.

Marc Oliver captures a feel-good, let-loose quintessence in the release of his latest single, "Surf Song." Simmering in an atmosphere that's equally as laidback as it is upbeat, this record speaks to Marc Oliver's storytelling capabilities.

As the lush guitar riffs greet you upon pressing play, it's as if you're transported under the sun with the motion of the waves guiding you through life. It's that type of ease and effortlessness that Marc Oliver conveys as he pours his heart out into personal croons that are the utmost relatable.

Keeping your body still is impossible once the tightly-knit percussion joins this summertime anthem. Tapping along to the rhythm and getting lost in the perfect summertime jam, Marc Oliver truly creates a summer anthem while not trying to be anything he isn't. Basking in all that is "Surf Song," each harmony is perfectly placed and creates a larger than life atmosphere for listeners to groove to.

The immense attention to detail makes this song easy to listen to and ups its repeat factor. With the charisma of Marc Oliver shining through every word he performs and the relatability the lyrical motifs hold, "Surf Song" is an instant add to our summer in the Sun playlist.

Welcome back to BuzzMusic, Marc Oliver! Your latest single, "Surf Song," makes us excited for the rest of summer and eager to head to the car and blast it with the windows down. When crafting such a vibrant anthem, what inspired the upbeat nature and feel-good attitude throughout this song?

When my friend pitched a reality show about traveling surfers to an extensive network, I felt inspired to write a theme song. Fresh from a surf trip, I poured my excitement and storytelling from the journey into the music, capturing the vibes of that day. It became a fun summer package wrapped into a melody, embodying the joy of summer and the thrill of surfing adventures.

How does a song like "Surf Song" compare to your previously released hit, "Outlaw?" What similarities and differences did you notice in the creative process when bringing these tracks to life?

I think there has been a lot of difference between "Outlaw," "Surf Song' and even "Reach." I put Outlaw together from the production standpoint. It was something that I was driving toward from the heavily driven beat. Surf Song just came to me in a fun way to tell a story about having fun, chilling with your friends, top-down, wind-blowing, music-blasting, mid-summer fun. It came to life once we played the opening guitar riff, and then it went from there.

You've achieved some significant accolades throughout your career thus far. What happens to be your proudest moment and why?

Thank you. I think I have had a few. When I started my musical journey, while I was recording my first album, Avril Lavigne and I started dating. We were in the same studio in 2000, doing our first records together. Being a part of her album and her being a part of mine was pretty cool. Being the skater boy from her album, I followed her for a while, but other than that, it was cool to have started my journey there. I've had 20,000 people singing my songs back to me at huge shows, which has also been surreal. Recording songs with some of the greats. The list goes on and on. I'd share some pretty incredible stories if we were here for hours.

With 25 years in the industry, you must have learned some things about yourself and your craft that keep you going. What's something your audience may not know about you that you'd like them to?

Um... Well, I have two beautiful and unique daughters, 4 & 8. I surf a lot. I spearfish. I'm a classically trained pianist and play a few hours a day. I travel a bunch. I love to travel. I own two other companies. One is a Hard Seltzer brand called "Tigers Blood."

What can we expect to see from you for the remainder of 2023 going into next year?

I am releasing a new single every month for the next two years. I have so much finished music, so it's time to keep them rolling out. Keep a look out for the next one in three weeks!! I love music, and nothing makes me feel better than rereleasing music.
