Welcome to BuzzMusic, Jakey! We loved “Call It.” What a beautiful release! We Have to ask, what inspired you to make this song? Were you drawing from personal experience?

Thank you so much for the love! “Call It” is very personal. It’s about one of those warm summer nights where time seems to slow down. This boy and I are getting lost in each other’s energy. Amidst all the intensity, though, doubts start creeping in. Like, are they feeling the same way? I'm craving that authenticity, that truth. I'm willing and ready to give my all - pouring my heart into this connection. But then I’m hit with the realization that maybe there's more to their story – some hidden truths or mixed emotions. “Call It”' is all about capturing that whirlwind of emotions – the passion, the doubts, the longing. It's a snapshot of a summer romance that's equally thrilling and vulnerable. I love this song so much. It always brings me back to where I was when I wrote this last summer. Spark up a J, and you’ll be vibing and in your feels too.

You first burst onto the scene with your acclaimed debut single “Headphones,” right? What was it like to see your first piece of music get released? What’s been your favorite part of being an artist so far?

I have to say; it is so f***ing cool. I don’t think it will ever get old. Working on a project for so long and watching it come to life is so gratifying. Like. I did that!!!!!! I had this vision inside my head and had the opportunity to collaborate with some incredible creatives. So far, my favorite part about being an artist is being in the driver's seat. I am the driving force of Jakey. I have the final say. I feel so lucky to have surrounded myself with a team who fully supports my vision and wants me to win.

What originally inspired you to start making music, and what inspires you to continue now?

I've been making music forever. It started with humming random tunes but got more serious in college. I wrote a bunch of unreleased records back then, which are the building blocks of my current success. Some of those records are pure gold and trust me, they'll see daylight sooner than later. I used to write to vent, and I still do, but after three years in the game, my biggest inspiration is making music I'd listen to myself. I create for my own ears and constantly push my sound to new heights. It's not just music; it's a loop of me inspiring myself to keep the fire burning.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before, and what does music mean to you?

My music is just a vibe. I find that it doesn’t take up space. It’s there for you to consume when you see fit. I never want to impose my music and become an artist that just throws songs at you. I am super intentional with my art and want to ensure the quality is always there. It will def get you in your feels, though! Don’t be fooled! Music is so universal. It is healing. Any language, any genre, any artist - music has the power to move people. For me, though, it's not some mystical journey. It's just me, letting it all out, living my truth through beats and rhymes. Simple as that.

What’s next for Jakey? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans?

Duh! I have a few more releases planned throughout the fall and some exciting visuals to accompany them. I am working on my first full-length project, which I can not wait to share in the new year. I feel like I haven't scratched the surface of what I can accomplish creatively. I am so excited to continue experimenting and finding this new sound. To my fans, if there are any, just thank you. The next few years will be wild for me and my career. The future is bright. It’s only up from here. Jakey loves you.
