Poel Ignites a Punk Revival with Electrifying Cover of “Under My Thumb"

LA-based artist Poel is putting a high-voltage spin on a rock classic with his punked-out cover of The Rolling Stones' "Under My Thumb." With a deep-rooted love for punk, pop, and grunge, Poel injects new life into the song, trading its original swagger for an amped-up, no-frills punk energy that feels raw, rebellious, and undeniably fresh.

Recording the track in true DIY punk spirit, Poel and his crew set up a mobile recording studio on the beach in Redondo, tracking vocals inside an air-conditioned box truck. No Auto-Tune, no artificial polish—just pure, unfiltered passion. The result? The track crackles with energy, breathing new fire into an already iconic song.

"It felt like the right time for a cover," Poel explains. "I always loved Under My Thumb and thought it would be cool in a punk format." With longtime friend Matt Boroski on lead guitar and bass, the track has a gritty, anthemic feel, channeling the raw intensity of Bad Religion, Pennywise, and early Green Day.

The performance video captures this energy in full force. It was filmed in a tight, sweat-drenched rehearsal space in Redondo Beach, where the band tore through take after take, locking in the song's pure adrenaline.

As the seventh single from his debut album, Under My Thumb is more than just a cover—it's a statement. With more videos, shows, and releases lined up for 2025, Poel is proving that punk is far from dead—it's just getting started.
