No amount of words will bring back what was lost.
With their raw, emotive vocals and powerful, driving instrumental backdrops, Long Island’s NUMBFLOWER have quickly made a name for themselves with their gripping releases. Skillfully balancing the essence of 90s grunge with channeling the introspective angst of 2000s emo, they’ve created creating a sound that resonates deeply with the disenchanted and the hopeful alike. As they continue to solidify their place in the scene, iconic release after iconic release, these stars in the making are just barely hitting their stride.
Formed in 2023 by Dj Deane and Dan LeBrun, NUMBFLOWER is the product of a creative evolution that began in the ashes of their previous project, Hold Fast Hope. After crafting the initial tracks with producer Nicholas Starrantino, the duo expanded to include Nick DiMarco on drums and Tom Martins on bass, solidifying their lineup and musical direction. Drawing influence from modern acts like Movements and Title Fight while paying homage to grunge icons Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots, NUMBFLOWER draws influence from the past while still looking to the future, at least sonically.
For fans of the grunge-emo aesthetic, the beginning of NUMBFLOWER’s latest release, “Lead,” immediately draws you into nostalgic territory. The rousing guitar play is punctuated by accentuated drums, providing an introspective yet comforting soundscape that's easy to get swept away in.
“Lead” also features Brian Dowling (Prairie Fire) on vocals, who had this to say about the release: “When I first listened to the track, it reminded me of a spiral - each voice playing their part, singing a siren song into the void to one another that the other could not comprehend.” Somewhere, communication has broken down, and ultimately, “Lead” teaches us that sometimes, we have to let people we love go, even if it’s hard at the moment.
NUMBFLOWER’s latest release, “Lead,” is a nostalgic, powerful, and yet oddly comforting release that captivates with both sound and lyrical messages.
