Welcome to BuzzMusic Madman State! How has it been growing up in London? Who are some of your musical inspirations and in what ways have they inspired you?
Growing up in London has been a great experience and definitely given source to some inspirations of mine. Experiencing the birth of grime first hand as a teenager was very exciting and definitely inspirational in terms of how the UK scene evolved from there. Dizzee rascal and Giggs are two big UK influences. However I can't deny my American influences however, as they are definitely the ones who got me Into making music in the first place. The 90's hip hop has had a tremendous influence on me and you can definitely hear elements of it in my music. The later explosion in the 2010's of different kinds of hip hop definitely influenced my music including A$AP Rocky, Tyler the creator, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole amongst others. I also had a very big interest in Rock music (particularly the 90's and 00's) which inspired me to learn guitar which is quite prominent in my music. Bands that combine multi genre's in their music like N.E.R.D and also big influences.
Tell us about your record “Believe It Now”. What is the meaning behind it?
'Believe It Now' is a uplifting vibe celebrating the power of what we can achieve through self belief. I wanted to create a song which embraced my uniqueness and spread the message of being yourself 100% no matter what. In a world where it is so easy to compare ourselves to others all the time, I wanted to embrace the notion of being proud of who you are and whatever you may be passionate about.
In what ways does “Believe It Now” relate to your personal life?
'Believe It Now' relates to my personal life by how I always manage to remind myself that I have the ability to do whatever it is I desire. Like many people I've endured people telling me I can't do things, and I've always grown up with the mentality that that is wrong. There are so many possibilities in life and you'll never know what you can do unless you try. I always find happiness when I pursue whatever is it is I may feel ambitious to do.
What were some of the challenges you’ve faced in creating “Believe It Now”?
The process of creating 'Believe It Now' was quite an organic process. Not too many challenges apart from maybe clearing the sample but that wasn't that hard to be fair. In all honesty the process was quite a smooth one and I enjoyed it a lot.
What can we expect from you in the future?
You can definitely expect a lot more music coming from Madman State this year. I am also working on my own designed T shirt line. I will also be having my headline show in London by the end of this year, so watch out for that ! Many collaborations in the works. If you're an artist or producer, especially in the US give me a shout ! Always eager to work in new environments
