Kentucky-born singer, songwriter, and powerhouse vocal coach LaTasha Shemwell is taking center stage with her bold and captivating new single, “Reverse.” A fusion of R&B, neo-soul, and indie pop, the track celebrates feminine confidence, challenging traditional narratives around seduction and gender roles.
Known for her vocal versatility and magnetic stage presence as the lead singer of No Limits, LaTasha has spent years guiding others through the art of performance. Now, with “Reverse,” she turns the spotlight on herself, crafting a smooth, emotionally rich sound that showcases her vocal range and fearless perspective.
At its core, “Reverse” is about taking control—flipping the age-old dynamic of waiting for a man to make the first move. “I grew up in a very conservative home where the man always had to lead,” LaTasha explains. “But I want women to know that it’s okay to take charge—to express how you feel, to show desire, and to own your sensuality.”
With hypnotic melodies, a slow-burning beat, and LaTasha’s lush vocals weaving between confidence and vulnerability, the track radiates empowerment. It’s not just a love song—it’s a declaration of agency. The seductive lyricism doesn’t seek permission—it claims space, seduces with intention, and speaks directly to the freedom of feminine expression.
Beyond her own artistry, LaTasha continues to inspire through her work as a vocal coach, nurturing students across genres from opera and theater to R&B and country. Her dedication to the craft—and her ability to bend genres without losing emotional depth—has made her a cornerstone of Owensboro’s music scene.
With “Reverse,” LaTasha Shemwell isn’t just making a statement—she’s rewriting the rules of romance, one note at a time.
“Reverse” is all about flipping traditional gender roles in romance. What inspired you to write this song, and how did your personal upbringing shape its message?
I grew up in a very conservative home where women had to be submissive. Writing this song was me stepping out of that box. Women should celebrate their intimate side and express themselves freely. I learned in life that sometimes a man wants to be noticed, chased, and desired.
Your sound blends R&B, neo-soul, indie, and even a bit of hip-hop. How do you approach genre fusion when creating a track like “Reverse”?
All of these genres are a part of who I am. I grew up listening to Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Alanis Morissette.
As a vocal coach and lead singer of No Limits, how does your work with other artists influence your solo artistry?
Working to develop my students and collaborating with other artists truly challenge and inspire me to grind harder.
Confidence and femininity are huge themes in “Reverse.” What do you hope women—especially younger listeners—take away from hearing this song?
My hope is that this song helps women and young ladies to know they are the Prize, and they have a voice. Never settle, be patient, and the right person will come along to deserve special treatment.
What’s next for you as an artist? Can we expect more music in the same seductive, empowering lane—or are you planning to explore new directions soon?
My next single, "It's Not Complicated," will be released in June. It is about a woman taking a stance against a narcissistic partner. My hope is that women or men know they are not alone and pick up the signs of this behavior.
