Based in Calgary, Canada, Kyle Chester has known he was passionate about music since childhood. As a naturally gifted singer/songwriter, Kyle has been establishing his skills and crafts for many years. Not only is Kyle a musical artist but his creativity manifests in many other forms. Kyle Chester is a published model, youtuber, graphic designer, and fashion designer. After a brief hiatus, Kyle makes his explosive return with the introspective lofi-pop track “Waves”.

What advice would you give to your younger self now, when you first started writing music?
Don’t stress over your writing, singing, Being the best or whatever else you may feel. Your craft comes the more you put yourself, your love and hard work into it. Enjoy it. Focus on YOUR OWN music. You’re doing great.
Can you tell us about the meaning behind the lyrics in “Waves”?
The meaning behind the lyrics of “Waves” come from an honest place of introspection, for sure. I’ve been really going through it, hard in my life, like I feel a lot of us are and I’ve been stressing myself out over the hows and when’s of life... instead of just like rolling with the “Waves” of life.. and letting them take me to where I’m supposed to be.
What was the writing process like? What inspired the song?
My writing process is very hard to explain. I let my soul do the talking and then I go in and reword things that need to be. If that makes sense.
The inspiration was I wrote “Waves” last year, while working on my EP but I wasn’t completely satisfied with the musical aspects of it. I loved the writing. But i wasn’t 100%. I had this certain sound I was hearing in my head and I was searching and searching for someone to help then thank you to the blessing that is Defstarz... He really just added that sound I had in my head... without even knowing. So that’s how Waves” came to be.
Who are your biggest musical influences and why?
My biggest musical Inspirations are 100% Prince, Lana Del Rey, Etta James, Elvis Presley and David Bowie. Each one put all of themselves in their music and you could really feel it. From the music right to the lyrics. Hiding treasures for us to discover. I would love to one day have an impact like they have had.
What are your career goals for 2019?
To release more music, stop holding myself back and just to be happy, find peace and continue to grow as a person. That’s really what I want.
