Jumpstart Your Day With Smooth Retsina Glow's New Release, "Against Any Odds"

Coming in hot with another captivating release is the dreamy, funky jazz-rock band Smooth Retsina Glow. With a new single titled "Against any odds," the band empowers listeners far and wide.

Now entering its fifth year of releasing music, Smooth Retsina Glow is powered by Colin Wolf's musical stylings and new members Quincy Wellen and Natalia Expraxia. Gaining success with their 2023 album Gemini Reign, among other singles, the new and improved trio is taking their future by the horns with even more crowd-pleasers.

Their latest single is no exception. "Against any odds" is a bright and booming rock-jazz song with lyrics that naturally uplift anyone who listens. Only within a couple of months of its release, this track has already gained regional and international success, breeding the momentum for the band's 5th album, Through the Needle's Eye, to follow.

Expanding on "Against any odds," the track kicks off with a powerful and attention-commanding jazz-rock instrumental, setting the funky and dreamy tone from the get-go. Effortlessly showing off their musical prowess with smooth transitions from verse to hook, Smooth Retsina Glow showcases their renewed sound and style in the most irresistible way possible.

The song's lyrics are another interesting aspect. Colin Wolf perfectly expresses those cut-throat, high-stress moments of watching the odds stacked against you. But, he sings a message that anyone can learn from: We have the power to prevail and defy the odds, no matter how stacked they might seem. It's an empowering, immersive listening experience that anyone can appreciate.

Welcome to Buzz, Smooth Retsina Glow! Congratulations on releasing your newest single, "Against Any Odds." What inspired you to create such an empowering song like this?

There's a saying that I've heard from a lot of artists/songwriters that you have to write a number of bad songs before you get something good, or before something spontaneous comes out, and I think it was simply a good riff, a good melody, some interesting things from a musical perspective- all condensed in a very radio friendly 3.16 package. And without being rushed- it was pretty easy to write. Thanks for the compliment!

How is "Against Any Odds" different from your previous releases? Does this song showcase a new sound or style for your group?

Against Every Odds is different from the previous singles you've heard because we now have two new members joining me ( Colin Wolf)- Quincy Wellen on drums and Natalie Efpraxia on vocals, so already there is a drastic change in terms of personal. Stylistically, for the past number of years we've dealt with a number of lineup changes- as well as evolving from more a blues/ folk americana group in our early days. This song is a continuation of our indie/alt sound, but it is more mature and sophisticated. Even though it has a Disco/R and B sort of drum rhythm, it has a shoegaze sort of production value with a type of distortion that doesn't sound too " dated" from the rhythmic aspects, and the distorted sound is ideal for my vocals, considering its not pristine cline, but at the same time, it doesn't get overdone.

What was the collaborative process like between the members of Smooth Retsina Glow for "Against any odds?" How did you three bring this song to life?

One of the few things that haven't changed is when I write a song, I tend to be something of a completist when I write, in the sense that I write the music, the lyrics, the vocal melody, and when I bring it to the others, I tend to have a pretty sketched out idea of how I want the rhythmic feel, but I also give the others a certain leeway in terms of how the songs are "arranged." For your readers, songwriting and arranging are two different entities, and I think that there is a good interplay between the songs.

What did you want listeners to take away from your lyrics in "Against any odds"? How did you want this song to impact them?

It is written from the standpoint of the singer (myself) going through various issues and getting through it, but I believe that just about anyone can relate to it; I think just about everybody can face "against any odds" and prevail!

What was your favorite part about creating "Against any odds"? What moments or parts of the process did you enjoy most?

As a whole, the process of writing, arranging, and recording captures us as being " on all cylinders"—the whole experience because the overall outcome isn't possible without all the elements. Everybody in the group liked it from the preview, it was easy to finalize, and easy to record. You could also say it was a healthy challenge to give it all the elements, especially from a drumming standpoint. And it has become a perennial- from here on forward!

For your readers, composing and arrangement are two distinct things, even though the songs, in my opinion, work well together. geometry dash world
