Interview: JL the KidD Sheds Moe Light On Latest EP, 'Moe Life'

Welcome, JL the KidD! We loved "Moe Life." what an exciting way to end the year! We had to ask what it was like seeing and hearing the completed project for the first time.

Thank you. It's been about two to three years since I was last featured in an article of yours, so the welcome feels well warranted. As for my project, I've had the majority of it completed for around a year now. I never had the courage to release or drive to finish it. A switch flipped in my head earlier this year. I realized there would never be a perfect time to finish or release the project and that I should do it now before I regret never doing it later.

What was your favorite part of the creative process of making "Moe Life," and what is your favorite song from the EP?

My favorite part of making " MOE LIFE " was meeting talented engineers and artists to help me with this and future endeavors. A key individual to the sound of this mixtape is Swamii, the Producer. Without him, the project might not have been completed. He's also the one who mixed my favorite song on the mixtape, "DIE HO3 ", a ballad of self-reflection, self-indulgence, and self-destruction.

What has been your favorite part of your musical journey thus far, and what goals do you still want to accomplish through your music?

My favorite part of my musical journey would have to be the references. I love referencing points of interest in my music. The song " FIND OUT " was a direct ode to the song "Want You" by Savage Garden. "JAWBREAKERS," the title, and the contents of the song are references to famous early 2000's cartoons and animation, like Ed, Edd, n Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Kim Possible, and Star Wars the Clone Wars, to name a few. The song "HOLLOW" references Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" in the first verse.

What do you want your listeners to feel when they hear a JL the KidD release, especially concerning "Moe Life?"

For "MOE LIFE" and particularly for the titular song of the same name, My listeners should feel the gravel underneath our feet and understand that the road we've walked is long. We've come so far from OD's and trapping and from reckless behavior that could kill us. The listeners should feel the change I've gone through and that my motives have changed from seeking fame to seeking a better version of myself.

What's next for JL the KidD? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans?

If everything goes as planned, then " THE HEARTBREAK KID " mixtape will drop on the next solstice. Things didn't go as planned the first time, and I dropped " MOE LIFE " instead on this solstice. My Ishvalan blood tells me that the solstice is essential for some reason. If I genuinely want better results with myself, it will start on that unique day.
