So go ahead, turn it up, and let JASHAR & Mr Tunez remind you: You’re not just anyone—you’re Him.
How have your individual experiences—JASHAR with Def Jam tours and Mr Tunez with film scoring—influenced your collaboration on “I’m Him”?
JASHAR:
Crazy experience to say the least. The tour I was on was called “Streets Most Wanted” and I struggled a bit on tour because I’m not a street artist. I learned from that and was able to create a broad range of tracks that could suit more audiences. I’ll tell you what, if I had this song back then this story would’ve been much different lol
Mr. Tunez:
My experience with scoring really forced me to broaden my music repertoire and learn to balance and bounce ideas off of other people. I really learned to feed off of the energy of others and use it to make me better. The song exudes confidence and motivation.
The song exudes confidence and motivation. What real-life situations or emotions inspired the message behind “I’m Him”?
Mr Tunez:
Growing up I didn’t have the most confidence in myself and was somewhat timid but as I grew older I knew I had a gift and had to own it. I started just faking the confidence until it genuinely became apart of my personality.
JASHAR:
Honestly it was the same for me. I wasn’t the cool kid in school and it wasn’t until I started making music and doing shows that people started to gravitate towards me. I definitely faked it til I had it too.
Your chemistry as collaborators is evident in this track. What do you think sets your partnership apart from others in the industry?
Mr. Tunez:
We really just are always on the same wavelength. Once you find someone with a similar outlook on music but just different enough to where we can bounce off of each other and grow, we really just found our perfect match. The other thing that helps is we always match each others energy.
When one of us comes with an idea the other doesn’t hesitate to say “let’s do it”. That accompanied with our friendly competitiveness makes us an unstoppable duo. Not Batman and Robin, it’s Batman and Superman
JASHAR:
I love that! Batman & Superman. That’s another thing that we have in common that sets us apart. We’re really into comics and we have more than just the music to talk about. It made us actual friends and not just musicians who collaborate from time to time.
Can you walk us through your songwriting process? How do you strike a balance between clever wordplay and raw emotional impact?
Mr. Tunez:
With this song it was a friendly sparring match to see who was really “Him” how could we really encapsulate it the best. Just trusting that we both can bring it, there was no doubt it would be a banger.
JASHAR:
I approached the song as if I was a being that had learned from what makes you less than and then was able to brag about how much better I had become.
With your label in the works, what’s your vision for it, and what kind of artists or projects are you excited to support?
JASHAR:
My vision is to take it as far as we can. To the big leagues if possible. I wanna work with unique artists that not only know about creating a palatable sound but also having strong songwriting skills to be able to write some big songs. I wanna be able to help people that are great but don’t necessarily have the means to move forward inside the industry.
Mr. Tunez:
Definitely want to bring in and boost up young and upcoming artists. We want to give opportunities to people might not have all the tools or knowledge that we’ve had to obtain over the years. It’s sad to think about how many talented people give up on their dreams only because they don’t know where to go or don’t have the means to. We want to be that big step and that boost for people.
