The London-based musician remains a hopeless romantic on his melodic new release.

In a world brought to a standstill by the unprecedented events of Covid-19, one artist emerged from the chaos, captivating listeners with his unwavering determination and creativity. Pop sensation Jamie Hannah seized the moment, making the most of the lockdown and utilizing the time inside on poignant reflection, which would influence his future releases. Returning to his roots, Hannah embraced his signature haunting ballad style, showcasing his piercing vocals and weaving a poignant story that captivates listeners. The result? Soul-stirring masterpieces that touch the deepest recesses of the heart.

Although it might be easy to take Jamie Hannah’s recent impressive releases for granted, his current brilliance results from continuously striving to improve himself as an artist and a person. One of his recent releases, “Flowers,” “was written during lockdown when I had the time and space to examine my feelings towards the universal quest to find love.” This cathartic creation allowed him to delve deep into his psyche, reflecting on past romances and the enigmatic nature of falling in love. Taking those experiences and his reflection to heart, Hannah’s music is often infused with emotional honesty and intimacy, making it feel like he touches your soul.

Jamie Hannah’s talent has not gone unnoticed, with renowned publications and industry giants like Time Magazine and Billboard Magazine acknowledging his talent ad artistic ability. For his new release, “Surrender To You,” gentle instrumentals lead by an elegant piano swell and burst with positive energy to kick off the proceedings. Even with a robust instrumental performance, Hannah’s vocals impressively remain the standout focus of the song, as he drops lines like “Disco ball moonlight, all over my skin / Liquid ecstasy to show me where to begin” and “I wanna be ready, ready for your surrender (x3)”. With “Surrender To You,” Hannah continues his streak of instantly appealing releases that hit you straight in your feels.

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Jamie Hannah! We loved “Surrender To You” and the direction you’ve taken your music in! We had to ask, could you take us through the creative process for this release?

I wrote the song in early 2023 while I was in LA. Like many, I experienced difficulties growing up in rural England with no queer role models. I wanted to highlight queer as usual. I also wanted to write something away from my typical happy, joyous, up-tempo ballads. “Surrender to You” reflects the normal dating process – dating, having fun, making mistakes, and smiling. Writing the words and music came quickly – as always, I like to do all the background harmonies.

What inspired you to get into music in the first place, and what inspires you to keep making music today?

I’ve been singing since I was about two years old. Through school, college, and university, music was my first love – particularly singing – school choirs, the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, and gigging around London while at the Royal College of Music, where I gained my degree in music. I also learned to play several musical instruments and the basics of performing. I loved some of the stuff I was involved in, like being a backing singer to Kylie Minogue at several of her London Christmas concerts at the Royal Albert Hall or touring China performing classical music in large opera venues. I keep making music because I love it. I cannot think of doing anything else than being in the music business.

What is your favorite part about being able to make music and share it with your fans?

Live performance is amazing as you can connect with the people in the audience. However, there are so many opportunities on social media/podcasts/radio, etc., that I am always stunned when people contact me worldwide to talk about how much they like my music.

What would you want it to be if your fans could take one thing away from your music?

Music is such an international language. It can speak to you in a number of ways – from goosebumps on your skin to emotions like sadness to happiness. Most of all, I want my audience to feel my music like I do. I want them to feel joy. I want it to continue to speak to them directly as individuals and make them happy being who they are. Happy in their skin regardless of the situation, country, language barriers, sexuality, color, religion, size, shape, ability, etc. There are too many things to make us depressed – let the music find joy within us.

What’s next for Jamie Hannah? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans?

I have written many songs over the last six months, and I will be releasing these in the near future. To my fans, keep listening. The best is coming. I am so excited about the new music; they come from my heart.
