Welcome to Buzz, Giselle! We love the infectious energy you bring to the speakers in "VEGAS." What inspired the song, and how did you capture that carefree vibe that's so intoxicating?
Happy to be here! Thank you SO much! I appreciate that very much! Vegas is actually a song that popped into my head after hearing about a friend of a friend’s husband cheating on her in Vegas. As someone who’s been cheated on myself, writing a song about it isn’t too hard. But the story inspired me to share a perspective with listeners that isn’t exactly sad but is all about knowing your worth!
Moving on from someone who doesn’t truly love or respect you. It’s all about listening to your intuition! The song paints a storyline of the person knowing that they’re being cheated on while their partner is in Vegas, proving it and moving forward!! Which I highly encourage people to do. There’s a love out there that will be beautiful and respectful to both parties. No point in staying with someone who cheats on you!
As for the vibe, I knew I wanted the song to be very, very pop and very dance-like! I put together a rough draft of how I wanted it to sound, and my producer brought it to life and then some!! When I wrote the melody, I wanted to play on the “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” expression and make sure I wrote something that would get stuck in people’s heads!
You have a diverse musical background, playing piano, drums, guitar, violin, and ukulele. Did any of these instruments have a unique role in shaping the sound of "VEGAS"?
Thank you so much! Oddly enough, the piano played a big role! It helped me figure out the chords and tempo that I wanted for this song!
In a song like "VEGAS," how do you balance fun with deeper emotions in your music?
I think a great way to balance deep, emotional lyrics in a pop song is by making sure the music is upbeat and fun and making sure each lyric has value in the song. People will get excited hearing something upbeat, but upon second listening, reading, or even first, they’ll realize the meaning of the words!
Your journey from Buffalo to L.A. has clearly impacted your music. How has the move influenced your style and creative process, particularly on this latest single?
It really has! I’d say not just for Vegas, but even beyond this song, I’ve grown so much as an artist. I’ve learned to embrace that I don’t have to be stuck in a box. One month, I might drop a pop song, the next an R&B song, the next a country song, and so on! I think living out here has inspired me to explore even more.
I’ve always listened to almost every genre of music, but I haven’t always written for myself in every genre. I think it’s pushed me to do that! I’d also say I’ve grown in confidence in my music. I’m not sure if little Giselle at 18 or 20 would’ve written Vegas. I think life experience, moving, and growth in my own confidence helped me write that song and many others!
Looking ahead, what can fans expect next from you? Will you continue in this upbeat, dance-pop direction, or are there other styles you’re excited to explore?
This is such a fantastic question! Fans can expect more enjoyable music! That’s all I can say! I want people to be surprised by each new song! That being said, there is a new song coming very, very soon. Stay tuned!
