Rising country blues rock band Ghost Hounds teams up with folk legend Patty Griffin for a soul-stirring cover of "Long Ride Home," accompanied by a poignant music video.
Tipped to be the breakout band of 2025, Ghost Hounds have been turning heads with their powerful blend of country, blues, and rock. Having opened for icons like The Rolling Stones and Garth Brooks, this 7-piece outfit brings a wealth of experience to their music.
In their latest release, Ghost Hounds breathe new life into Patty Griffin's 2002 hit "Long Ride Home." The band's interpretation, featuring Griffin herself, offers a fresh take on the emotional ballad about loss and regret.
Diving deeper into Ghost Hounds' version of "Long Ride Home," we're greeted with tender guitar strums and lead vocalist SAVNT's rich, soulful voice. While he perfectly captures the song's melancholy, adding Griffin's ethereal tones in the second verse creates a beautiful harmony. The instrumentation, particularly the sweet-sounding fiddle, enhances the song's emotional impact perfectly.
The song's music video, directed by Jay Arcansalin, is a stunning visual that brings the lyrics to life. Shot in black and white, it follows a man's journey through grief, from a funeral car ride to laying flowers on a grave. SAVNT's performance and the narrative he provides are deeply compelling. The video's simplicity, paired with the song's powerful message, is a true sensory treat.

We're touched by your cover of "Long Ride Home." What drew you to this particular Patty Griffin song?
The storytelling in this song is exactly what drew us to it. The way Patty’s words effortlessly tell the tale of regret after losing someone you love is a story I think anyone can identify with. We all have moments where we wish we were kinder or said more. The lyrics are raw and paint a beautiful picture of lovers turning to strangers and all the time wasted in between.
How did the collaboration with Patty Griffin come about for "Long Ride Home," and what was it like working with her on this track?
As we were developing our setlist for a performance, our bandmate Thomas suggested this song to the band, and we were all really moved by the words and were excited to perform it at the Roxian. Watching the reaction from the crowd that night, we knew we had to record it and celebrate that moment.
Never in a million years did I think we would pitch it to Patty’s team, and she’d love it—that’s all any artist could hope for. So when she decided to record the song with us. Hearing our voices blend together was special; I hope everyone who listens loves it as much as we do.
The music video for "Long Ride Home" is incredibly moving. Can you tell us about the concept and filming process?
Sitting with our director, Jay, we decided that the best way to pay homage to such an iconic song was to stay true to the story and show how introspective grief and loss can make a person.
In the video, you watch this older man say his final goodbye to his late wife, and it was really inspiring to see the way Donald (the lead actor) was able to convey such raw emotion without words—I definitely took notes.
What was the most rewarding part about recreating such a classic tune like "Long Ride Home" alongside Patty Griffin herself? What was your favorite part of the process?
My favorite part of the process was having a legend hear our version of the song and be excited to collaborate; that’s a level of validation that you will never forget.
What do you hope listeners take away from your version of "Long Ride Home"? What do you want them to feel?
I hope people listen to the song and remember to tell the ones they love how much they care today and give them their flowers now.
