Emerging like a phoenix from the vibrant music scene of Fremantle, Emu Glitter's debut double single, "Resurrect Me" and "Tamarind & Lime," is a spellbinding mix of theatricality, introspection, and a dose of cheeky edge. This four-piece band wastes no time carving out a niche with their bold blend of 70s glam rock, early 2000s pop-rock, and modern-day alt-rock ingenuity.
Kicking things off with "Resurrect Me," this record offers an anthemic pulse led by melodic keyboard riffs and uplifting harmonies. Frontman Jack Crooks delivers lyrics dripping with raw vulnerability, narrating a journey of self-discovery and growth that’s as cathartic as it is catchy. It’s the type of track that feels tailor-made for stadium singalongs while still tugging at personal heartstrings, which, to us, is the ultimate feat.
On the other hand, "Tamarind & Lime" plunges headfirst into theatrical rock territory with a 6/8 waltz groove that’s anything but conventional. Crooks’ soaring falsetto shifts from tender to ferocious, mirroring the song’s biting critique of monotony and consumer excess. Written during a shift at a butcher shop, of all places, the track layers its societal reflections with psychedelic metaphors and cutting observations, making it as thought-provoking as it is utterly entertaining.
Recorded live in the studio, both tracks capture the essence of Emu Glitter’s dynamic chemistry, blending intricate arrangements with an unmistakable warmth. With Jack’s poignant lyrical motifs, Nate Jombwe’s riveting basslines, Vanessa Millar’s bittersweet harmonies on the guitar, and Simon Martin’s impactful percussion, the band delivers a sound that’s delightfully eclectic yet harmoniously cohesive.
For a debut single launch, Emu Glitter dazzles their audience with a release that’s as colorful, tangy, and unforgettable as their name suggests. We're stoked to know there's more where this came from, but in the meantime, this double feature remains on repeat.
