The new EP release from the Philadelphia based progressive emo rock band Don't Call Me Shirley pushes the envelope and produces some incredibly in-depth rock songs complete with emotion and a painful relatability. The first of the two tracks "Tired" engulfs you in a swirl of textured guitars and keys combined with an endlessly catchy chorus. The second of the two is called "Ashes". This track starts in a bit more spacey in an alt-rock way. Delayed guitars harmonize into a gorgeous soundscape of melody and rock. The singing on this record is excellent but it's the guitar work and songwriting that sticks with you at times. A definite musical journey, the Tired / Ashes EP is a strong debut from Don't Call Me Shirley.
