Dan Conway is the epitome of an ambitious artist. As a producer and songwriter from New York, he learned from a young age to always keep pushing even when the odds are stacked against him. After breaking his leg in a varsity wrestling match, Dan found himself needing an outlet for his devastation and frustration. Music was the answer, it was the ultimate healer for him. Now Dan Conway aims to be an inspiration for others through his relatable music and neverending strive for greatness.
“Relentless. What keeps me moving forward. Relentless. When all seems lost. Relentless.”
Dan Conway’s single “Relentless” completely captures his attitude and sentiments as an artist. There’s clearly a level of depth to this that speaks volumes on behalf of Dan’s own journey and personal experiences. The way he’s expressed this is not only beautifully poetic but complex and simple all at once. “Relentless” is vague enough to be made your own and mysterious enough to leave you wondering exactly what Dan’s inspiration for this song might be. Taking a step closer towards electronic production, but still holding on to ambient and multi-layered soundscape design, Dan Conway presents a brilliant sense of rhythm, melody, and vocal delivery. “Relentless” introduces an indestructible side of the singer/songwriter, and it’s a pleasure to hear that creative variety.

Welcome to BuzzMusic! We're incredibly excited to be featuring your song “Relentless”. Tell us about the recording process, and how the overall curative process was for this piece?
-This recording process was one of the best experiences. I was going through a really tough time in my life. The girl I thought I would marry, that I wrote music with and created with, and most importantly loved and trusted; cheated on me. She not only betrayed my trust, but she thought we could continue making music and pursing the songwriters life together. I recorded an EP for my Ex and I in the past, but before our relationship ended we started recording with my buddy Nick from Zin Records. I've known Nick for a long time as he was a good friend of my sister growing up. I followed his band "Life Between Sleep" and knew that he would be a good person to take our musical vision in a good direction. Following the break up, Nick and I had multiple conversations. The conversations consisted of my musical direction, and how moving forward as a solo artist would be in my best interest. The first couple sessions at his studio were like therapy sessions. Outside of songs I've written in the past I have not really been able to open up the way I was able to during this recording process. The theme of the song stemmed from these conversations. The idea became more clear when I stated how I wouldn't give up on the love I had. Being relentless, and not wanting to see the one I loved and all the memories just fade to nothing. I tried everything in my power to salvage what we had, before learning that she had cheated. The power behind the vocal came from this raw emotion of being hurt. The lyrics came from that hurt, but was framed in the mindset of when I was still holding on. There's so much raw emotion and power in this song, and the process is one that I will not forget. Being an artist is one of the toughest things because you are vulnerable, but sometimes being exposed and putting your heart on the line leads to magical things.
How do you think "Relentless" compares to your newest single “Electric Sunshine”? How do you think your overall sound has progressed since your debut release?
-The tracks are different for sure. "Relentless" is meant to give the listener an opportunity to connect through the lyrical content, and the overall message portrayed in the song. Meanwhile, "Electric Sunshine" was a creative work that I released to give my listeners variety. As a writer and a producer I think we are always trying to find new ways to reinvent ourselves. I never know what is going to inspire me next, but when I create a new work I always put 100% of my soul into, and hopefully the listeners feel that energy and connect with what I am saying both lyrically and musically. I think my sound progressed nicely. I have been trying new styles and working on different tracks to try to expand my abilities, and learn more about who I am as a creator.
Who has had the biggest influence on your life musically thus far? Can you describe the impact this particular individual has had in terms of “Relentless”?
- The biggest influence in my life musically would be Nick from Zin Records. I've recorded multiple records at his studio, and the atmosphere he provides as a writer is not only a comfortable one, but also an environment where you want to create the best possible record you can. I've learned so much from him as a creator, and just as a person to look up to in terms of the passion he has. I think every great artist has had a mentor and a guide to get them on the right track, and Nick has given me this light. He has been the light that has helped me understand myself as a person and a musician alike. There is nothing more important than the confidence someone can instill within you. I am thankful for having Nick in my life and he will be lifelong friend.
What are some of your ultimate goals as an artist? Are any of these goals currently being put into place/being worked on?
My ultimate goal is to have my music embraced. I want to play my original songs in front of crowds that connect with the words I'm conveying and bring meaning to their life. Whether they are going through a tough time in their life, or they just want to have fun and dance. This is why I think it is important as a musician to have a variety of sound and styles within your catalog. There are so many people to reach. I look at music as a healer for my own well being, but I know there are people that feel the same way as I do. If I can bring joy into their life then I did my job. Music has elevated me through my lowest times, and has helped me understand my life. I hope I can bring that same feeling to my fans.
It was great having you here on BuzzMusic! What’s next for you artistically?!
"The Space Between Us" You heard it here first. October 15th is the release date. Aforementioned I used to be in a band with my Ex who eventually cheated on me. We severed ties, and this song is my way of letting go. This song is my acceptance of the fact that people change... relationships change, and that it's okay to let go of situations that are no longer good for you. Plus, it's a jam so everyone should definitely give it a listen in their car on full blast! Thanks to everyone at BuzzMusic! This experience has been such a positive one, and I look forward to working with you guys in the near future!
