Cassidy Mackenzie Blesses Fans With A Vibrant Debut Single, "Leave Me Alone"

Making her highly-anticipated debut by way of Vancouver and Los Angeles is a singer-songwriter, renowned cover artist, and musician Cassidy Mackenzie with her debut single, "Leave Me Alone."

After dropping out of music school in Nashville, Mackenzie headed back home to Van and started posting covers on TikTok. Now, with over half a million followers and praise from bands like Simple Plan and Mayday Parade, Cassidy Mackenzie is finally releasing her long-awaited solo music.

"Leave Me Alone" is produced by Glashaus (Selena Gomez, Wiz Khalifa, Rachel Platten, etc.), who pitched that it would be fitting if the tune combined all of Mackenzie's eclectic musical influences in one song. The result was a stellar merge of hip-hop rhythms, Cassidy Mackenzie's signature guitar loops, and anthemic pop vocals that sing of wishing to move on from a breakup.

Hitting play on the new single, "Leave Me Alone," we're greeted with a groovy rhythm guitar loop, tight hip-hop drums, and Cassidy Mackenzie's sultry vocals that roam the memories of someone's love. The young recording artist gets straight to the point in this pop-punk-esque tune and chants her powerful vocals on the hook, wondering when this past person will finally leave her alone.

This song is a powerful and exciting treat for the ears that perfectly showcases what her loyal followers have been waiting for since posting her first few viral covers. We appreciate how the song ties into current punk trends while still delivering an authentic rock/hip-hop edge to perfectly balance the experience.

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Cassidy Mackenzie. A big congratulations on releasing your long-awaited debut single, "Leave Me Alone." Why did you want this song to lead the way in your solo career? What does it mean to you?

Thank you so much! I'm stoked about the release! After recording "Leave Me Alone," I immediately knew I wanted to lead with it because it was painfully honest. Writing the lyrics and the music video felt like jumping off a high diving board because of how true they are to the story the song is based on. Giving listeners and viewers raw stories that they can relate to is super important to me, and I want to set that tone for future releases.

Considering you've made a name for yourself solely through cover videos, did you feel that "Leave Me Alone" had a lot to live up to? When did you feel the track was complete and ready for release?

I'll never think the track is ready for release. I swear I could work on a song for 17 years and still think there's something to fix, haha. The cover videos actually helped a ton in terms of crafting the instrumental of "Leave Me Alone." I learned a lot about what I like to record through the covers, like crunchy guitars and big choruses. I think this song reflects the sound and style of the cover videos.

What was it like working with experienced producer Glashaus for "Leave Me Alone?" How was he able to capture your broad musical influences in one song?

Dan and Tom Glashaus were awesome to work with. It felt surreal flying to LA and working with really experienced musicians, and I learned a ton from them. They were pumped about my influences, and we had a lot of fun recording the song. Their studio was insanely cool, too, so I was geeking out the whole time over their equipment.

On a more personal note, what do you want to be known for as an artist? What do you want your music and artistry to represent and stand for?

I want to be known for authenticity. I want to make people feel accepted, represented, and not so alone, and I think the way to do that is by telling honest stories. It's important for me to be the artist that you can rely on to share a true piece of yourself with you. Music meant the world to me growing up (it still does), and if I could help even two people the way that the musicians I listened to helped me, I'd be beyond happy.

What's next for you?

I'm going to keep writing/recording songs and release a bunch of originals this year! I think that "Leave Me Alone" is the starting point for an exciting new chapter.
