Bella Gate Finds Peace On “Sleepwalking”

Sometimes, the kindest thing you can do for yourself is walk away.

Rising singer-songwriting star Bella Gate is set to enchant listeners once again with her latest single, “Sleepwalking.”

A poignant reflection on the tumultuous journey through teenage love and self-discovery, “Sleepwalking” shows Gate’s continued improvement and commitment to artistic depth. Splitting her time between Edinburgh and London, Gates has been responsible for some absolutely inspired releases in the short time since she’s been active, including standout offerings like “Hindsight” and “Yesterday.”

Bella’s musical journey has taken her across various corners of the globe, with a significant milestone in Barcelona, where she recorded her first album at Sol de Sants and RoomTo studios.

Her debut single and album were mastered at the iconic Abbey Road Studios by the esteemed Geoff Pesche, who added an expert touch and valuable insight to her work. With a wealth of new music set for release throughout 2024, Bella Gate is back and better than ever. As she continues to position herself to make a lasting impression on the scene, we’ll be watching how she progresses closely.

Gate’s latest release, “Sleepwalking,” delves into the emotional complexities of adolescent relationships, capturing the high-stakes drama and elusive clarity that often accompany youthful infatuation. A gentle piano, initially somber and pensive, eases you in before Gate’s rich vocals take you away. “You said that you were mine, though it wasn’t true,” Gate sings, gently lamenting a love that has not been reciprocated. Throughout the song, Bella confronts the confusion and disorientation of teenage love, ultimately embracing the idea that sometimes, letting go is the greatest act of self-kindness.

About “Sleepwalking”, Gate says “This song is for anyone who looks back on their teenage years and sees mistakes and chaotic love. This song isn’t about regret or blame, it’s about love and life”. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Bella Gate’s enchanting new single, “Sleepwalking”, out now on all majour platforms.

Welcome to Buzz, Bella Gate! We loved “Sleepwalking” so much that we had to ask: What inspired this song? Were you drawing from personal experience?

Thanks for having me, Buzz! This song was inspired by those tumultuous teenage years, which I think are almost a universal experience. You’re 15, you’re “falling in love,” and it’s all a bit messy. I actually wrote the song with my friend Joe Haynes when I was 20, so it’s more of a reflection on adolescent love.

What was your favorite part of the creative process for bringing “Sleepwalking” to life?

I came up with these chords, and they were pretty funky (I couldn’t even tell you their names at the time). Then I brought them to Joe, and he kept rolling with them while I focused on the top lining. It all came together so quickly. It’s a good feeling.

What does music mean to you, and what do you think is the most essential quality for an artist to have?

This is cliché, but music means everything to me. Music and family are the big two in my life. While it’s super important that artists have clear visions, their flexibility, and ability to collaborate are crucial.

What do you want your listeners to feel when they hear a Bella Gate release?

Every release by an artist is like another piece of a jigsaw puzzle, and I hope that all my songs give a cohesive but varied image of life.

What’s next for Bella Gate, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?

I’ve got a single called Drink With Me coming out on June 21st, 2024, and then there is a pretty big announcement coming over the summer…
