‘Lost Touch’ is the latest video from Canadian West Coast trio Bae Baracus and the lead track from their upcoming full-length album ‘Release,’ which drops May 31 on Boomsmack Records.
Diving deeper in their post-punk sensibilities, 'Lost Touch’ is about not feeling yourself anymore, about feeling dead inside. It's a bit of a hymn, a dirge dedicated to a life that was once vibrant but has been crushed by anxiety and emotional pain. But dirges help us express grief, and expressing grief eventually helps us develop a new outlook, and that optimism can be felt in the undertones of the song.
As the world descends into a singularity, and we become more interconnected, we become less connected to ourselves. Lost Touch is about snapping back into our own minds, from the virtual dream.
Powered by Lin Gardiner’s considerable arrangement and production chops, Clef Seeley’s skilled multi-instrumental playfulness, and lead singer Dolly De Guerre’s jaggedly lyrical sensibilities, the Bae Baracus sound taps into the 21st-century zeitgeist and channels its with the timelessness of their unashamed sparkle.
While retaining some of that undeniable sparkle across many of the tracks, their 2024 album ‘Release’ is intentionally darker than their previous records. ‘Release’ explores the double-edged themes of liberation and the ennui that accompanies it. Like a 3 am coffee, the album’s mood is both energetic and angst-ridden. Filled with nocturnal post-punk dance, it abandons all hope of sleep and embraces the night.
Bae Baracus's album 'Release' is available on all streaming platforms via Boomsmack Records now.
